Flier for Conservation Colorado's Board and Commissions Fellowship program Mentorship.

The Boards and Commissions Fellowship is a free, six-month leadership program from Conservation Colorado’s Climate Justice Leadership Academy. It prepares emerging leaders from disproportionately impacted communities to serve on local and state boards and commissions across Colorado. Through monthly trainings and mentorship, fellows build the leadership skills,
confidence and network needed to step into public decision-making spaces.

Why Become a Mentor?
Mentors play a key role in supporting emerging leaders as they build confidence, strengthen their leadership skills and explore pathways to serve on boards and commissions.

By sharing your own experience, you can help expand representation and foster community-centered leadership across Colorado.

Who Should Apply?
Current or former boards and commission members who are passionate about mentorship and community leadership. They especially encourage people from directly impacted communities and those with underrepresented identities — including Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ community and people with disabilities — to apply to help strengthen representation and foster shared lived experiences with fellows.

Details:
  • 2–5 hours per month from October 2026 to May 2027
  • Monthly 1:1 meeting with the fellow you are mentoring
This three-day program provides substance use prevention and education in a safe, supportive setting. Children learn they are not alone by meeting other children and families who have similar experiences. Through art, games, role-play and other fun activities, children learn to identify and express feelings, develop coping skills, build resilience, and deepen communication with their loved ones.

Parents or caregivers join their children for a portion of the program. This component includes education, support, and tools for families to continue conversations about substances and feelings. The Children’s Program helps caregivers and children open lines of communication and heal the hurt in their relationships in a shame-free environment. Bringing children into the family recovery experience sparks the healing and momentum necessary to create multi-generational recovery and wellness.

At this time, the Children’s Program is free to families due to the ongoing generosity of donors.
