Jeffco Communities that Care- 2023-2024 Data Report
To better understand youth health and the factors that help young people make healthy choices, Jeffco CTC delves into the findings for the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) every other year.
- Voluntary and anonymous: Participation in the HKCS is voluntary, with a 4-tiered consent process that includes district administrators, school leaders, parents, and youth.
- Participation: The most youth ever participated in the 2023 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey across the state: 120,239. Many schools are electing to survey their entire student body population to obtain robust school-level results — which is why youth participation numbers are increasing.
- District Results: In Jeffco Public Schools, any interested middle or high school can opt-in. The district receives an aggregate district-level report with results from the middle and high school data for all schools that opts-in and participate.
- Regional Results: To reduce bias and create consistency across regions, a scientifically-selected random group of high schools are selected for the regional data in Jefferson County or Region 21. Although this produces a smaller number of respondents, this regional data is available to anyone and allows for state and regional comparisons at the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey dashboard.
- Number: In 2023, over 7,000 high students participated in randomly selected schools for Region 21. Demographic information can be found here.
